Different types of photo editing services for your business
March 12, 2026

Most brands do not need “photo editing.” They need a specific operation, priced and briefed like a production task. Mixing those operations into one vague PO is how catalogs drift and invoices swell.
Start with the edge. If the subject has a hard outline — a bottle, a sneaker, a box — you want a clipping path. A path is a vector. It scales, it lives in the PSD, and it is how you drop the same object onto white, concrete, or a seasonal scene without shooting again.
If the edge is soft — hair, mohair, tulle, steam — a path will look like a helmet. That is image masking. Masks keep semi-transparent pixels. They cost more because they take longer. They are still cheaper than a reshoot.
Apparel is its own problem. A visible mannequin looks like a dummy; a flat lay hides drape. Ghost mannequin (invisible mannequin) combines the on-form plate with an interior/label plate so the garment holds volume and the neck reads as a hollow. If your photographer did not shoot the interior plate, say so up front. We can imply shape. We cannot invent a collar that was never photographed.
Color is the silent return driver. Color correction matches the file to the swatch. Color variants invent additional SKUs from a hero when the material can take a hue shift. Denim fades, iridescent fabrics, and busy prints usually cannot. Ask before you promise twelve colorways from one sample.
Retouching is everything after the cutout: dust, glue, dents, skin, warped labels. For jewelry it is metal grade and stone fire. For stock it is the conservative pass an agency will not reject. For family archives it is restoration — a slower, proofed rebuild of tears and stains.
Real estate is a different desk: HDR blend, verticals, sky, twilight, declutter, optional staging. The ethic is the same. We do not invent a house. We make the listing look like the afternoon showing.
If you are briefing a vendor, name the operation, the delivery spec (canvas, shadow, color profile, file name), and the complexity. That is the difference between a studio and a gig thread.
